Removal of the Natives

Overview

The Five Civilized tribes, the Cherokee, the Chickasaw, the Choctaw, the Creek, and the Seminoles, were the five tribes that adopted many American attributes. Before indian removal, the Seminoles' territory was in Florida, the Cherokees' territory was around the Appalachian Mountain area, the Creeks' territory was in Alabama, the Chickasaws' territory was in upper Mississippi, and the Choctaws' territory was in central Mississippi. The map below shows their territories and their routes to Oklahoma. The dark green spots were their territories before the Indian Removal Act, and the yellow shows their territories right after the Indian Removal Act. Some of these territories have changed since then. The lines show the path that they took to their new territories.
